Primary School project

Our school stands just adjacent to Mukuru slum. We have nearly 400 pupils, 90% of whom come from the slum.

The school caters at present for children from nursery age up to class seven. Next year we will have Class-8 candidates.  Due to large numbers joining the school every year, and the poor environment for study, as a church we joined hands in the year 2011 and decided to improve the crumbling and dangerous old building from mabati (iron sheet) structure to permanent building.

The church gave sacrificially. Initially it was a big mountain, but through prayers, faith and determination construction of the current 8 new classrooms, each fabricated with 40 seats was completed.  On 1st April 2012, the building was dedicated to God. In May 2012, just after the 1st term break, Kids were able to move to the new building.

To improve the health status of our children, we started giving them porridge everyday at 10:00 a.m. before having their lunch at 12:00 noon.

The compound was becoming so dusty on the rainy seasons and muddy on the rainy seasons, and we considered spreading ballast all over the compound. The ballasted ground provides a good environment for kids to do their various Physical Educations (P.E) and other interactions.

We also constructed a new water point for kids to have access to clean drinking water and washing hands.
